Government Green Energy Committee Starts Work

A special committee of politicians in Ontario has started to explore the potential of renewable energy in that province.

TORONTO, Ontario, CA, 2001-10-01 [] The Select Committee on Alternative Fuel Sources was appointed in June to “investigate, report, and recommend ways of supporting the development and application of environmentally friendly, sustainable alternatives to our existing fossil fuel sources.” The group is chaired by Doug Galt from Northumberland riding, with politicians from Hamilton, St. Catharines, Toronto, Scarborough, Etobicoke, Durham, Oshawa and Prince Edward- Hastings. The all-party committee will lead public consultations on environmentally-friendly forms of transportation and energy generation. Their broad mandate involves setting priorities and discussing how it will obtain technical information from experts in the field and from the general public. The committee plans to submit a final report to the provincial legislature by next May.
