From Cold Beer to Geothermal Energy Promotion

January 15, 2004 [] At the Association of Energy Services Professionals International (AESP) annual awards luncheon held in conjunction with its 14th National Energy Services Conference in New Orleans, Louisiana, Delta-Montrose Electric Association (DMEA) was recognized for its Co-Z Energy Plan, which began as a way for DMEA to sell its members energy services– such as hot showers, cold beer, and comfort– rather than just electricity. But as the program has grown, it has been transformed more directly into a program promoting geothermal technologies. As a result of this program, DMEA, a cooperative utility, has facilitated the installation of more than 250 geothermal heat pumps throughout the Western Slope in Colorado, and has nearly doubled awareness of the benefits of this premium energy efficient technology.
