For the first time in my life, I’m calling my Congressman. You should too.

I just got this email from the League of Conservation Voters (LCV) and several other organizations. Did you get them too? Probably. They’re all urging me to call my Congressman about voting yes on the American Clean Energy & Security Act.

Now, normally I say to myself, “Why bother? Someone else will do it. I’m busy, I got a job to do, yada, yada, yada. But you know what? If we’re in this industry and want it to grow, this is part of our job.

To pick up the phone and tell our Congress people that we give two turbines about clean energy and so they should too. So here’s the letter I got with a few personalized bits cut out. UPDATE: This was so easy. Called, Said I was supporting the act. Staffer said that my congressman was too. He took my first name and zip code. That’s it. Took less than a minute. Might take longer for someone who’s on the fence, but you’ve got a script below. Use it.

Dear Solar Fred

One of the most important votes the US House of Representatives has ever taken on the environment is expected within 48 hours. It is crunch time and we need your help – this vote is an essential step toward strengthening and passing comprehensive energy and climate legislation this year.

Your Member of Congress needs to hear from you on this important legislation today.  Will you call your representative and ask them to vote YES on the American Clean Energy & Security Act?

WHEN: TODAY, Thursday, June 25

WHAT TO SAY: Tell the legislative staffer who answers that:

    * I am calling to urge Representative Watson to vote YES on the American Clean Energy & Security Act (HR 2454) and support all strengthening amendments.
    * As a constituent, I believe that now is the time to pass this comprehensive energy bill, which will set us on a path to create millions of well-paying jobs, improve national security by reducing our dependence on oil, and protect the planet.
    * The American Clean Energy & Security Act provides a national framework to address the growing threat of global warming and includes important provisions to help protect consumers, workers, and businesses in our transition to a clean energy economy.

We need as many calls as possible to reach Congress today.  Please take a few minutes to call and add your voice to the thousands of voices who are contacting their representatives today.

Thank you for all that you do for the environment,

Gene Karpinski
