Flood Destroys Solar Living Center

[RenewableEnergyAccess.com] On December 31, 2005, the Solar Living Center sustained $150,000 damage by the worst flood to hit Hopland, California, in over 50 years. While the Solar Living Institute’s (SLI) interns were rescued by boat, the devastation to the site from being eight to ten feet underwater for many hours is staggering: the geodesic dome that housed the Interns burned to the ground, destroying their personal property, their living quarters and their kitchen; five vehicles were submerged and destroyed; archives, tools, sustainable living workshop materials, furniture and personal property were destroyed; and the landscape, fences, dock and road all incurred damage. Plus, living supplies and clothing are requested for the Center’s landscaper, who lost everything. For direct donations, please contact Jacki Abraham in Broomfield or Bob Gragson in Hopland. All donations to the Solar Living Institute are fully tax deductible.
