Fallout From The Silicon Shortage, Solar Air Conditioning, Huge Concentrating Solar Power

This week “Inside Renewable Energy” takes a look at the silicon shortage, which has become a issue for solar cell and module manufacturers and their customers.

We talk to Ron Kenedi, vice president at Sharp Solar in the U.S., who reveals that this might not be all bad for the industry. We also hear from Rhone Resch, president of the Solar Energy Industries Association. He makes the case that smaller solar PV manufacturers — those without substantial amounts of silicon in storage — are being be hit hardest. We introduce “Tech Spotlight,” an ongoing segment that covers renewable energy technology. This week we take a look at the SolCool hybrid solar air conditioner and talk to SolCool’s Mark Walsh. Listeners will also hear from RenewableEnergyAccess.com editor Jesse Broehl about Nevada One Solar, a concentrating solar power plant under construction in the desert outside Boulder City, Nevada And, as always, the podcast will cover the latest in renewable energy news.
