EU Threatens to Boycott U.S.-led Climate Meet if No Progress in Bali

[EnergyCentral] The European Union on Thursday threatened to boycott a U.S.-led meeting of major carbon emitters slated for January in Hawaii unless “substantial” progress is made at the ongoing U.N. meeting on global warming in Bali, Indonesia, through Friday.  “It’s true that if we have a failure in Bali, it would be meaningless to have a Major Economies Meeting,” Portugal’s Secretary of State for the Environment Humberto Rosa said at a news conference, pressing Washington to accept a carbon emissions target as proposed in a draft “Bali road map” for negotiations on a post-Kyoto Protocol framework to combat global warming.
