Ethanol Industry Breaks Another Record

September 2, 2003 [] The Renewable Fuels Association (RFA) announced that the U.S. ethanol industry set a production record for July of 178,000 barrels per day (b/d), according to data released by the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA). Production was up 38 percent compared to last July when 128,000 b/d of ethanol were produced. The ethanol industry is expected to produce over 2.7 billion gallons in 2003, up from a record annual production of 2.13 billion gallons in 2002. Currently, 73 ethanol plants in the U.S. have the capacity to produce 2.9 billion gallons annually. Thirteen additional plants are under construction.
