London, UK [RenewableEnergyAccess.com] The Ashden Awards for Sustainable Energy are seeking entries from local sustainable energy projects from Asia, Africa and Latin America to compete for a share of GBP 200,000 [US$371,000]. The closing date for entries is November 14, 2006.The 2007 International Awards will be offering five first prizes of GBP 30,000 [$US55,680] each and second prizes of GBP 10,000 [US$18,560] each for projects that are using renewable energy to address food security, health and welfare, light, education and enterprise. Award-winning schemes must have been operational for at least one year and must still be active. Successful schemes will be highly replicable to ensure maximum impact in the battle against climate change. Award winners are promoted to the media, practitioners and experts in the field as leading examples of sustainable energy in action at the local level. One of the prizes will be a Special Africa Award in recognition of the combined challenges of climate change and poverty facing the region and the vital contribution that local renewable energy can make in tackling both. The Awards will be presented at a VIP ceremony in London in June 2007.
