California Utility Proposes Purchase Plan

October 10, 2003 [] San Diego Gas & Electric (SDG&E) recently released a proposed a plan to purchase a mix of demand response and local generation assets, including energy from renewable resources and new power plants, to meet growing customer needs beginning in 2005. Among the proposal’s highlights, which still need to be approved by California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC), are the company’s anticipated purchase of 40 MW of renewable biomass energy, and partnership in a joint demonstration project using solar thermal generation technology.
