Another Australian Wind Farm Planned

June 6, 2002 [] Pacific Hydro plans to build a wind farm in Portland, Victoria in Australia. It wants to install 120 wind turbines on four sites at Cape Bridgewater, Cape Nelson, Cape Sir William Grant and Codrington. Pacific Hydro claims that the $A300 million (US$171 million) wind farm will create sufficient energy for over 100,000 homes. Denis Napthine, the Victorian Opposition Leader, has received a petition in support of the project. It contains the signatures of 3,500 residents. Tourism accommodation operator Phil Oakley counters that 1,300 tourists have signed a petition opposing the wind farm.
