Accelerating Renewable Energy at DOE; Venture Capital Firms Embracing Cleantech

Steven Chalk, Deputy Assistant Secretary of Renewable Energy at the Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy at the U.S. Department of Energy, talks about the government’s role in developing and deploying clean energy technologies. While the budget for renewable energy is small compared to other programs, says Chalk, the amount of private capital moving into the sector is what’s really driving the industries.

Venture Capital firms are one part of the private sector helping to foster new ideas and accelerate growth in the broad cleantech industry. Ira Ehrenpreis, a long-time cleantech venture capitalist, tells us about a new fund announced by his VC firm Technology Partners. Ira will also discuss the growing interest in renewable energy, alternative vehicles, green building design and advanced materials among the VC community.
