Ruth began her career as a Mechanical Engineer in the automotive industry after obtaining her Bachelors in Mechanical Engineering (B. Eng.) from Carleton University. This dynamic 12+ year career entailed progressive responsibility for the entire product life cycle from design and test through to product launch and continuous improvement within industry-leading Fortune 500 automotive OEMs, including General Motors Diesel Division - Defense Operations and International Truck & Engine Corp. She chose to transition into the field of renewable energy / sustainable development through pursuing a Masters in Applied Science (M.A.Sc.) within the Department of Civil Engineering at McMaster University in 2005. Ruth's research was primarily focused on assessment / analysis of the interaction between climatic variables and urban morphology in support of building-integrated renewable energy conversion system development and developments within the field of wind power meteorology. Since graduation Ruth has conducted home energy audits as an NRCan (Natural Resources Canada) Certified Energy Advisor, supported utility-scale wind farm development as a Senior Wind Analyst / Project Manager, acted as interim Division Head throughout the launch of a renewable-energy focused division of a local LDC, and sustained start-ups within the Solar PV & thermal sectors through market research, project management, site assessment, and system design, including component installation as Sole Proprietor / Principal Consultant of EcoDomus Consulting.
