JJ Jamieson began working in the energy industry over 11 years ago for BC Hydro as systems specialist responsible for network operations / systems support in a large geographic area for the utility. He was quickly moved over to BC Hydro’s marketing division (Powerex) where he transitioned from an IT support function to a Business Analyst / Transmission Specialist within the Energy Trading Team allowing him to develop his understanding of western power markets. JJ continued to develop his expertise in western power markets during his five years with Portland General Electric working in the Power Operations Group where he was responsible for operations, compliance, market development, and regional coordination.
JJ’s background in power operations (specifically trading, transmission usage, and compliance), combined with a strong knowledge of the electrical system, provides him with the tools to help understand the challenges facing the energy industry while helping to develop solutions.
JJ currently serves on a number of WECC, NWPP, and WSPP Committees and subcommittees including the WECC as the Chair of the Joint Guidance Committee and as Vice Chair of the Market Interface Committee.
He has been actively involved in western market development including chairing the Technical Steering Committee for the Intra-hour Transaction Acceleration Platform, a software based solution for intra-hour trading and scheduling in the west. JJ is currently participating in the NWPP Market Assessment and Coordination Committee in addition to other regional market development efforts.
