Harold V. HelsleyBoard Member, Fusion Power Corporation*"If you don’t make a difference, think about who will . . . While growing up, my father said many times, - "You live in a community and ... you have an obligation to give it some of your time." ... I have tried to do that! A "Native Californian", I was born and raised in Vista, northern San Diego County, on a lemon and avocado ranch. In high school, I was the student body business manager, senior class president, yearbook editor, and stage manager. I lettered two years in varsity basketball. I attended Palomar College for my AA Degree. At San Diego State College, I earned my BA and my first teaching credential. I completed my science major at UCLA . In 1970 at Cal State Northridge, I finished my Administrative Credential and MA. In college, I participated in forensics, Circle K service club (local president, Cal-Nev-Ha District Governor, International Secretary, and International President), EPT (Industrial Arts Honorary Society), PBK(Honorary Educational Society), and my church college organization (MYF). My junior year at San Diego State, I worked in the planning department for the City of Chula Vista southeast of San Diego. My senior year, I was the school’s lead printer. While teaching Middle School Industrial Arts, Science, Technology and Math with Los Angeles Unified School District over a 47 year period, I spent two summers managing YMCA summer camps for the Metro Y of LA and over ten summers in the studios as a Propmaker (Local 44). For twenty years, I also served as an elected member of Las Virgenes Municipal Water District Board of Directors which provides potable water, and collects and treats wastewater for over 65,000 people covering 117 square miles abutting Ventura County. I was active on state boards in the California water community and was known as a strong advocate for total water reuse. Over the last forty years, I have served the County of Los Angeles, not only in an educational leadership role promoting industrial technology education, but also as an environmentally responsible land use advocate. Ultimately being appointed in 2000 to the prestigious Los Angeles County Regional Planning Commission, as a Commissioner, which oversees development in all of LA County, a population of over 10 million people. I still serve on the Planning Commission. I started my service to LA County Planning in 1972. Retiring early from teaching in 1998, I continued to teach Graphic Arts, Photography, Math, and Web Publishing on a part-time basis at Hale Middle School, in Woodland Hills, CA (LAUSD) until June of 2002. I reinstated with LAUSD in July of 2002 and taught Science at Mulholland MS, an API 1 school, and then accepted a position in Instructional Technology as a Teacher Advisor (Technology Coach) teaching technology to middle school mathematics and science teachers. Finally retiring from teaching in January of 2006 to go to Ecuador and the Gallopogos Islands. I have been involved with the formation and promotion of Fusion Power Corporation, a California C Corp. and FP Foundation since 2009. I am one of the Founding Directors. Nancy, my spouse of 50 years, and I designed and physically built our own home overlooking a meadow and stream in the Santa Monica Mountains. Here, we raised our three sons. We have had the great fortune to have good health and to have extensively traveled the western portion of the North American Continent. I enjoy hiking, fishing, camping, traveling, photography, graphics, reading, computers, but most of all, working/problem solving with children and adults. I am high concerned about the world's population future and it's energy demands.*www.fusionpowercorporation.com
