Nordex Takes on N90 Wind Turbine Blade Production

Germany's wind turbine powerhouse Nordex is bringing blade production for one of their top wind turbines in-house. After the completion of intensive testing, the company is beginning the internal production of rotor blades for its N90 2,300 kW turbine.
New Manufacturing Technologies Pushes Prices of Solar Power Down

New Manufacturing Technologies Pushes Prices of Solar Power Down

In the last decade or so, the amount of solar power that has been installed has grown with tremendous rates. Unfortunately, the finance crisis has resulted in stunned growth within the solar industry. New technologies that promises to push the prices of solar power down, gives us new hope. In this article, I’m going to look closer at two new […]

German Wind-to-Hydrogen Plant Takes Car-Fuel Battle to Tesla

After decades of research, Linde AG says the elements needed to make hydrogen-fuelled cars a viable challenger to Tesla Inc’s battery-driven vehicles are finally falling into place.
Researchers Discover How To Site Wind Farms More Quickly, Cheaply

Researchers Discover How To Site Wind Farms More Quickly, Cheaply

When a power company wants to build a new wind farm, it generally hires a consultant to make wind speed measurements at the proposed site for eight to 12 months. Those measurements are correlated with historical data and used to assess the site’s power-generation capacity. At the International Joint Conference on Artificial Intelligence later this month, MIT researchers will present a new statistical technique that yields better wind-speed predictions than existing techniques do — even when it uses only three months’ worth of data. That could save power companies time and money, particularly in the evaluation of sites for offshore wind farms, where maintaining measurement stations is particularly costly.
Renewable Energy Stocks by the kWh

Renewable Energy Stocks by the kWh

I recently sized up five renewable energy power producers using the metric that’s most often used for solar panels: Dollars per Watt ($/W). It’s an intuitive metric, but has serious flaws both for evaluating solar installations and stocks. Slightly better is Watts per Dollar (or W/$100 to make the numbers look nice) as shown in the chart from that article below.

The $30,000 Hydro Development George received a telephone call from Dave, a hydro industry consultant. “George, I gave your name to some monks. I hope you don’t mind. They’re looking for advice on a new hydro plant they contemplate building,” Dave said. A few weeks later, the monks visited George at his office and outlined their plans for the new […]

Google’s Clean Power Deal Shows Wind Power Finding New Customers

Renewable energy developers are increasingly selling wind power straight to the users, tapping a new customer base as some traditional utility buyers are backing away.
Hydropower – The Forgotten Renewable Energy Source

Hydropower – The Forgotten Renewable Energy Source

While falling costs of solar and wind power plants have sparked a boom all over the world, hydropower is marginalized in many regions. A recent visit by four energy experts to four hydropower plants in Portugal, Scotland, and Iceland raises the question of whether hydropower can play a role in the energy transition toward renewables.
