Electric Vehicle Fast-Charging Infrastructure Provider Picks Up the Pace

This week, EVgo, a provider of public electric vehicle (EV) fast-charging stations in the U.S., said it was accelerating the pace at which it is constructing fast chargers and will add hundreds of EVgo fast chargers in California before the end of 2018.

Specifically, the company said it will grow its fast-charger count in the top two markets, the San Francisco Bay Area the LA Metropolitan Area, by 59 percent and 45 percent, respectively, by year-end 2018.

“EVgo’s mission is to enable access to a better way to drive by building a reliable and convenient network of public fast chargers for electric vehicles,” said Cathy Zoi, EVgo CEO.

“The next two years are critical for transportation electrification as automakers begin deliveries from the $100 billion they are investing to retool for EV manufacturing,” she added. EVgo says its chargers are able to charge an EV eight times faster than “Level 2” charging, by using a DC connection. The company says a car owner can bring its battery to 80 percent capacity in less than 30 minutes.

EVgo chargers are compatible with all EVs that accept fast chargers, according to EVgo.

Customers pay about anywhere between US $0.15- $0.35 per minute of charging depending on their payment plan. In addition, complimentary charging plans are available for buyers of new vehicles from partner automakers, including BMW and Nissan.
