Houston-based VL Offshore (VLO) said this week that it has unveiled its Y-Wind floating offshore wind foundation.
The company said that price and technology barriers have been constraining the offshore floating wind sector, adding that the Y-Wind is designed to overcome those barriers.
According to VLO, features of the Y-Wind foundation include:
- Ease of construction
- Proprietary motion dampening structures
- Low mooring costs
- Shallow lightship draft with turbine-
- No active ballasting
The Y-Wind is designed for water depths to 1,000 m and for turbine sizes of 3 MW and greater.
