Trina Solar Ltd, the world’s biggest maker of solar PV panels, will buy the assets of Solland Solar Cells BV in the Netherlands, boosting its manufacturing capacity by about 200 MW.
Trina Solar’s Dutch unit said it will buy Solland’s factory, located in Heerlen, in the southern part of the country, and will start operations in the coming weeks, according to a statement Tuesday. Terms of the deal weren’t disclosed.
The sale forms part of Trina’s expansion plan, said Jifan Gao, founder and chief executive officer at the Changzhou, China-based company, in the statement. The purchase “allows us to leverage our global resources so that we can further expand our presence and enhance our competitive edge in overseas markets,” he said.
