January kick-starts the Romanian wind industry with new grid connections and a huge congress in Bucharest on 14-17 January

January saw three wind farms developed by Enel Green Power in the Dobrogea region of Romania being connected to the grid. This adds 206 MW of capacity to the existing 1700MW (Romanian Wind Energy Association figures from November 2012). The country has seen huge growth in installed wind power since 2008 when it stood at just 14MW. A combination of fantastic wind resource, new laws for renewables a generous support scheme in the form of green certificates (worth between €27 and €55 per megawatt) and a couple of mega projects from Iberdrola and CEZ has shown just how promising Romania is for the global wind industry.

All of these firms, as well as the local Grid (Transelectrica), the Regulator (ANRE), the green certificate market operator (OPCOM) as well as key developers such as Monsson Group, Tomis Team, Continental Wind Partners, major original equipment manufacturers such as GE, REpower Systems, Siemens and Nordex and financiers from Erste Bank, IFC, EBRD, Green Giraffe, Terra Firma, Raiffeisen Investment will join a 300+ congress on 14-17 January at the Marriott Grand, Bucharest.

The congress is a significant opportunity to meet with the people who matter and registration is still open for delegates. Contact Jo-Anne Duff for more information:
