Currently reading Empowering Customer Choice in Electricity Markets, from the IEA. The report addresses various market design & rate schedule options from a Demand Response perspective. While it doesn’t address renewables, I think it’s still a great read because approaches to PV as a distributed resource will overlap quite a bit with DR in the future. In any case, it’s a great overview of the tools available to help markets more accurately reflect real-time generation costs and thereby create incentives for responsive customer consumption/generation behavior. It’s got everything from direct load control programs to capacity markets to smart metering to market liberalization, including case studies from various OECD countries – take a look!
