September 7, 2011 — Oerlikon Solar launched a 154W peak PV module with 10.8% efficiency at the European Photovoltaic Solar Energy Conference and Exhibition (EU PVSEC) this week in Hamburg, Germany.
The PV module shows an 8% efficiency increase over the previous peak value. By early 2013, the module will be fabbed on Oerlikon Solar’s existing ThinFab lines. Customers will be able to manufacture the modules in their own facilities, including Oerlikon’s first Asia-based ThinFab line customer, which it recently won.
The new record shows how thin film solar cell technology has advanced, said Helmut Frankenberger, CEO of Oerlikon Solar. In addition to efficiency gains, Oerlikon has devised thin film photovoltaics with thinner films and lower materials usage, as demonstrated on its 120MW-ThinFab line producing modules for EUR 0.50/Wp.
