KINSHASA, Democratic Republic of Congo China will loan the Democratic Republic of Congo about $367.5 million for construction of a hydropower plant in southwest Bas-Congo province, according to wire services.
The country’s ambassador to Congo signed off on the contract with the Congolese government on Jan. 29, reports indicate.
The 150-MW Zongo II project will be undertaken by Sinohydro, the company behind the Three Gorges Dam in China, Bloomberg reported.
The work is expected to create 2,000 jobs during its three-year construction phase and is funded using preferential loans from the China Exim bank.
In other news, a joint venture of Aecom and Electricite de France (EDF) has secured a US$13.4 million contract to conduct the feasibility studies for the Grand Inga hydro project site in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Aecom, in partnership with EDF, will conduct a feasibility study on the hydroelectricity development of the site and the associated interconnection transmission lines, a press release states.
