Alstom Makes its Debut in Turkey’s Wind Boom

Alstom’s deal with Eolos Wind Energy Generation, a subsidiary of Güris Construction and Engineering, is to supply, install and commission the 24 MW wind farm and to provide operation and maintenance services for five years.

“The fast growing Turkish wind energy market holds huge potential and this project is a promising step for us in the country,” said Alfonso Faubel, Alstom Wind’s vice president.

Wind contributes slightly over 1.1 GW to Turkey’s installed generation capacity of 46.5 GW and the sector is seeing rapid growth. Last year, 343 MW of new capacity was added in a 75% year-on-year expansion.

Turkey’s installed wind capacity is expected to rise by 500-1,000 MW per year and to hit 5,000 MW by 2015, said Alstom.

The Senkoy wind farm, to be build near the city of Hatay in the south of Turkey, is expected to come on line in late 1011 or early 2012 with annual production of about 83 GWh.

Senkoy is the second wind farm for Güris, which is one of Turkey’s largest construction companies.

Alstom has been active in Turkish power for more than 50 years, helping develop both thermal and renewable energy, said the company.
