Solarfun Sells 12 MW of Solar PV into Italy

A number of companies are shipping product into the booming Italian market before the country’s incentives are reduced next year. The latest announced deal was from the vertically-integrated Chinese manufacturer Solarfun Power Holdings, which is selling 12 MW of modules into Italy.

Solarfun signed two contracts for 6 MW a piece. The first contract was signed with GranSolarGhella, SrL , to supply 6MW PV modules to southern Italy in the second half of 2010. The second contract was signed with T.R.Z. Tozzi Renewable Energy S.p.A., to supply 6MW PV modules to central Italy in the third quarter of 2010.

Italy has been a rising star in the solar industry, becoming the third-largest market for PV in Europe. But with a 19 percent cut to the Feed-in Tariff there next year, demand could fall. Companies are doing their best to sell modules and get projects in the ground before the tariff changes.
