Odersun, AT&M eye Chinese thin-film JV

Odersun AG, a German manufacturer of thin-film solar cells and modules, has signed a deal with Chinese company Advanced Technology & Materials Co. Ltd. (AT&M) to produce and sell solar cells and modules in China.

November 3, 2009 – Odersun AG, a German manufacturer of thin-film solar cells and modules, has signed a deal with Chinese company Advanced Technology & Materials Co. Ltd. (AT&M, an Odersun investor since 2004) to produce and sell solar cells and modules in China.

The pairing centers on Odersun’s copper-indium-disulphide (CIS) technology, using copper tape as a substrate and carrier material (reels of cells are cut into strips, overlapped, and glued together). A new manufacturing facility will be built in China sometime “in the course of 2010,” the companies say.

“Here we have the unique opportunity to address the Chinese market and at the same time to further accelerate innovation at Odersun in cooperation with a highly competent partner,” said Hein van der Zeeuw, CEO of Odersun AG, in a statement, adding that the company will continue its expansion plans in Germany.
