August 27, 2009 – Dr. Evil (“Austin Powers”) launched the iconic Bob’s Big Boy into space. Now the burger chain is celebrating another celestial achievement: inaugurating a 26kW PV panel system from Canadian Solar, installed by HelioPower.

The system, installed for the Big Boy on 4211 Riverside Drive in Burbank (the oldest one remaining in the US), incorporates 132 Canadian Solar CS6P 200 polycrystalline silicon modules (60 solar cells per module) on a large steel carport and a flat commercial roof above a neighboring Starbucks. It will produce 39MWh of electricity, the equivalent of seven homes’ electrical demand, and eliminate CO2 equivalent to emissions of 57,000 miles/year driving and 78 trees planted.

The “Sixty and Solar” celebration will be held Sept. 24 at 11am; later in the day (5-7pm) there’s an anniversary Sock Hop. More information can be found on the Web or on Facebook and Twitter, and there are related videos posted to YouTube.
