Sanyo To Build New Solar Ingot & Wafer Production Plant

Sanyo North America Corporation has announced its decision to construct a new plant that will manufacture silicon ingots and solar wafers. The plant will be located at the Salem Renewable Energy and Technology Park in Salem, Oregon.

The plant is expected to begin operations in October 2009 and be at full operation by April 2010. The initial production capacity of the facility will be approximately 70 megawatts (MW). The plant will represent an investment of approximately US $80 million.

Sanyo said that in addition to building this new facility it plans to augment its existing facilities with new equipment. The company also has more new facilities in planning for future growth in response to market demand. The company plans to reach annual global production capacity of at least 600 MW by FY 2010.
