Brussels, Belgium [RenewableEnergyWorld.com] Suez Group’s Electrabel utility has signed a memorandum of acquisition for 100% of the shares of General Renewable Energy and Technics (GREAT), a company specializing in wind energy development.
GREAT currently owns a wind farm with a total capacity of 10.4 megawatts (MW) in Fitou, in the French department of Aude. Through its subsidiary Alize Energie, the company also has a portfolio of wind projects with a 615 MW generation capacity that are being studied and/or developed. The acquisition also allows Electrabel to strengthen its maintenance operations, through ACCEL Conseil, a subsidiary of GREAT.
In related news, the Compagnie du Vent unit of the Suez Group has inaugurated its first wind farm in Picardy, in the Somme Region of France. The Longs Champs wind farm consists of five wind turbines of 1.67 MW each, for a total capacity of 8.35 MW.
