Economics of Unionizing the California Solar Industry

One of North America’s largest unions is trying to organize solar installers in California, saying that all installers should be licensed electricians. But Sue Kateley, Executive Director of the California Solar Energy Industries Association (CALSEIA), says that installers have different skills from traditional electricians and should therefore be licensed differently. More importantly, says Kateley, there could be negative economic implications for unionizing the industry.
