Bengaluru, India [EETimes] India does not yet have a semiconductor-manufacturing plant in operation, and opinion is still divided whether the country needs one. But given the frequent power outages throughout the country, the story is quite different for indigenous solar-cell manufacturing. The Indian government announced incentives for manufacturing solar cells and panels earlier this year, and it has targeted meeting 10 percent of the country’s power needs through renewable energy by 2012. That has spurred a flurry of announcements by companies looking to join the nascent solar industry here.
