Nation’s Second Largest Wind Farm Slated for Peetz, Colorado

Peetz, Colorado [Northern Colorado Business Report] Gov. Bill Ritter will break ground Wednesday on the nation’s second largest wind farm, with enough capacity to generate electricity to power 120,000 homes. The small town of Peetz in northeastern Colorado — on Colorado Highway 113 near the Nebraska boarder – is the site of the FPL Energy-owned and -operated wind farm, which will place 260 wind turbines capable of generating 400 megawatts on privately owned land encompassing 80 square miles. FPL, a subsidiary of Florida Power & Light, will sell all the electricity generated at the Peetz Table Wind Energy Center to Xcel Energy Corp. for transmission to the Pawnee Power Station in Brush.
