Wells Fargo Announces Grants to Environmental Organizations

Wells Fargo & Company announced grants of $454,000 to six environmental organizations to promote environmental education, research and sustainable development.

One of the six grants awarded is specific to renewable energy: The Bonneville Environmental Foundation received unspecified funds for its “Solar 4 Schools” program, which combines solar-electric demonstration projects on K-12 schools with renewable energy curriculum materials and advanced data monitoring. “Though our contribution to Bonneville, we hope to increase understanding about the connections between renewable energy, improving our environment and energy independence,” said Barry Neal, director of Environmental Finance, Wells Fargo. The five other organizations are American Farmland Trust (farmland.org), Build It Green (builditgreen.org), Earthwatch Institute (earthwatch.org), The Go Green Initiative (gogreeninitiative.org) and the University of California, San Diego (ucsd.edu). “Environmental education and awareness, and environmentally sustainable development,” said Mary Wenzel, director of Environmental Affairs, “are critical to help ensure that economic development is not in conflict with the environment.”
