Washington, DC [RenewableEnergyAccess.com] To support the development of long-term advances, the U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) Solar Energy Technologies Program (SETP) is providing funding for the development of innovative, revolutionary, and highly disruptive future-generation solar electric technologies, particularly novel devices or processes with potentially significant performance or cost advantages.The device and manufacturing process research that is targeted by this opportunity is expected to produce prototype cells and/or processes by 2015, with full commercialization coming to fruition in the 2020-2030 timeframe. The following technologies were determined to have a high potential to meet the post-2015 goals of the SETP program. This list is not inclusive of all potential photovoltaics (PV) technologies that may be appropriate to this Financial Assistance Opportunity (FAO). The following technologies are a focus of the SETP: organic and photoelectrochemical PV devices, crystalline PV devices, non-crystalline PV devices, low-dimensional structures and PV devices, novel photoconversion devices, manufacturing advances, hybrid device concepts and crosscutting and multi-technology PV device topics and issues. Topic Area: Applications are sought that will use innovative technologies to produce prototype cells and/or processes by 2015. Project lifecycle is three years; the annual funding level is $300,000; team leaders are businesses or universities; entrance criterion includes materials synthesized; properties observed; exit criterion includes coupon-scale PV cell, process demonstrated in lab and proof of concept demonstration. Letters of Interest are due in May 2007; applications are due June 2007; selections will be announced in August 2007; the awards complete/project start is in October 2007.
