Solar America Showcases Opportunity for Technical Assistance

The U.S. Department of Energy has extended the due date for applications for its Solar America Showcases (SAS) opportunity to March 30, 2007. The purpose of SAS is to accelerate demand for solar technologies among key end use market sectors.

SAS installations may include photovoltaic, concentrating solar power, and solar water heating applications in projects such as residential subdivisions, commercial facilities, industrial facilities, school systems, prisons, wastewater treatment plants, college/university facility projects, office towers, shopping malls, municipal offices, “big box” retail and utility scale applications. DOE will provide selected applicants with specialized technical assistance — not direct financial assistance — on projects that use large-scale (in excess of 100 kW), high-visibility solar installation projects. Technical assistance includes planning, engineering, architectural, evaluation and other services. SAS projects should have the ability to impact the market for solar technologies through large project size, use of a novel solar technology, use of a novel application for a solar technology and/or be replicable or have replicable components. These are just some of the hundreds of potential applications using solar power that are eligible under this award. The Funding Opportunity Number is DE-PS36-07GO97008.
