Solar Energy Products Demand May Reach $1.3 B in 2010

Cleveland, Ohio [RenewableEnergyAccess.com] Demand for photovoltaic (PV) modules is expected to more than triple from 2005 levels to 531 megawatts (MW) by 2010, with a total projected value of $1.3 billion, claims “Solar Energy Products,” a new study from The Freedonia Group. Advances will be driven by the falling price of solar power, consumer interest in renewable energy sources and the widespread implementation of net metering programs; yet advances will be slowed by a shortage of polysilicon, a shortage that is likely to fade by 2010 as silicon producers complete planned expansions and as newer photovoltaic technologies that use little or no silicon become more widely used.
