Mahwah, New Jersey [RenewableEnergyAccess.com] Sharp Electronics Corporation, the marketing and sales subsidiary of Japan’s Sharp Corporation, has been named a winner of the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) “SmartWay Excellence Award,” which recognizes transportation and manufacturing companies that succeeded in reducing emissions of air pollutants and greenhouse gases.
“Sharp’s commitment to the environment is inherent in the fabric of our company. We are the world’s leading producer of solar cells, we operate the world’s most environmentally friendly factory and our corporate goal is to achieve zero global warming impact by 2010,” said Toshihiko Fujimoto, president and chairman, Sharp Electronics Corporation. Sharp was the only consumer electronics company to receive the award, which was announced at the 14th Annual National Association of Environmental Management Forum. Sharp, which created the “No Idling Policy,” is known as a “super green factory,” as its newest LCD panel manufacturing plant uses a photovoltaic power system, cogeneration systems and fuel cells.
