EU and Latin American Countries Confer on Renewable Energy

Helsinki, Finland [RenewableEnergyAccess.com] The Finnish EU Presidency invited all the EU member states, and Latin American and Caribbean states to participate in a forum this week in Panama focusing on renewable sources of energy. The conference is part of the Partnership Initiative announced by Finland, together with seven Central American countries, in 2002 at the World Summit on Sustainable Development held in Johannesburg. The Partnership Initiative aims at more extensive adoption of renewable sources of energy, with a focus on biofuels, wind power, and emissions trading. The Finnish Ministry for Foreign Affairs raised the total granted for the Initiative to four million euros [US$5 million] until 2009.
