Freiberg, Germany [RenewableEnergyAccess.com] The SolarWorld Group is expanding its export business to Asia. Deutsche Solar AG, a subsidiary of SolarWorld AG, has concluded two contracts for the delivery of solar silicon wafers until 2018 with two unnamed customers in Taiwan and South Korea. The value of the deal amounts to Euro 180 million [US$230 million]. This comes after last week’s announcement of exports to China and Italy. “The up-and-coming Asian states possess the highest growth solar markets in the world,” said Frank H. Asbeck, Chairman and CEO of SolarWorld AG. “The business deals concluded by our group in this region show that the high-tech products from Germany are very much in demand in China, South Korea and Taiwan.” “With these two orders alone we can secure several dozen jobs over a period of 12 years,” calculates the SolarWorld CEO. The solar wafers for Asia come from the group factories in Freiberg/Saxony, where SolarWorld AG uses silicon to produce high quality solar wafers, solar cells and solar modules. The SolarWorld AG Group is dedicated to solar energy being involved in all stages of the solar value chain from silicon as the raw material all the way to turnkey solar power plants. In addition to a presence in the U.S., operations in South Africa and Asia include the sale of rural solar power solutions that contribute to the sustainable economic development in the southern hemisphere.
