Ethanol Plants Under Consideration and Scheduled for Completion

In Illinois, Carroll County Ethanol, LLC, announced the completion of engineering agreements for the first of three planned corn-to-ethanol production facilities in Northwestern Illinois. Contracts were signed with Lurgi PSI, a U.S. subsidiary of Lurgi AG. Carroll County Ethanol, LLC, of Savanna, Illinois, is building the project, which will be located on the Bio Energy Renewable Resource Complex (BERRC).

In New York, Xethanol Corporation, a biotechnology- driven ethanol company, announced that its CoastalXethanol subsidiary has signed a letter of intent with Pfizer, Inc. to purchase Pfizer’s pharmaceutical manufacturing complex in Augusta, Georgia. CoastalXethanol intends to retrofit the site to produce 35 million gallons per year of ethanol cellulosic and other biomass waste streams generated by industrial producers in the surrounding areas. In addition, CoastalXethanol may produce biodiesel in this facility under Xethanol’s sublicense from H2Diesel, Inc. An AP story reports an ethanol plant in southwest Kansas capable of producing 55 million gallons a year broke ground. The new Finney County plant will create 35 to 40 full-time jobs and generate about $2 million in annual payroll. The Hutchinson News reported others plants under way in the same area of Kansas: Kansas Ethanol is mulling construction of a 40 million gallon per year plant in Stafford County or Rice County. In Pratt, excavation on a site for a 55 million gallon per year plant is complete and concrete work has commenced. Panda Energy of Dallas wants to build a 100 million gallon per year plant between Satanta and Sublette in Haskell County. Plans for building a plant in Kearny County on hold. North American Bioenergy Resources Inc. of St. Louis initially hoped to start construction last year on a 100 million gallon per year plant on the outskirts of Ulysses. A group of western Kansas farmers, ranchers, businessmen and others has been eying a site in western Ford County for construction of an ethanol plant.
