[RenewableEnergyAccess.com] Two metro Detroit facilities now offer E85, a high-powered, clean-burning alternative transportation fuel made from a blend of 85 percent ethanol and 15 percent gasoline that can be used in flexible fuel vehicles (FFVs). Several automobile manufacturers have built about six million FFVs currently on American roads. Although Michigan has two other E85 refueling locations, plans exist to open additional E85 facilities in the next few months. Michigan’s ethanol plant, which can produce approximately 40 million gallons of ethanol per year, is about to joined by three ethanol plants currently under construction, with another in the permitting process. Upon completion of these plants, the state’s ethanol production will annually reach approximately 250 million gallons.
