[RenewableEnergyAccess.com] The Ontario government plans to add more clean, renewable power to Ontario’s electricity supply by investing $985 million in a new tunnel to supply more water from Niagara Falls to boost the hydroelectric generation capacity of the Sir Adam Beck Generating Complex. The Niagara Tunnel project is expected to begin producing new clean electricity for Ontario in 2009, generating an additional 1.6 billion kWh of clean, reliable power — enough to meet the needs of 160,000 homes every year. The project will create about 230 full-time construction jobs, which could rise to 350 jobs at times over the four-year building period. The new tunnel is part of the government’s plan to boost Ontario’s supply of clean and reliable electricity.
