Korean Scientists Develop High-Powered Solar Cell

[Asia Pulse] A team of South Korean scientists said Wednesday they have developed a new prototype flexible solar cell which they claim is the world’s most efficient. The new flexible solar cell is expected to be significantly cheaper to manufacture and proved more efficient at generating electricity than conventional silicon-based solar cells, according to Ryu Gwang-seon, head of the team at the state-affiliated Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI). Unlike traditional silicon-based solar cells, the team’s product is made from titanium oxide, dyes and electrolytes sandwiched between two layers of plastic and stainless steel plates, Ryu said by telephone.
