Italy’s Endesa Scoops Up Wind Developer

[RenewableEnergyAccess.com] Endesa Italia has been awarded full ownership of the Italian company Idas — owner of the development rights for three wind farms in Sicily, Italy — at public auction initiated by Finven in September 2004. The wind farms will be constructed in Palermo, Trapani, and Vizzini and have a total installed capacity of 90.95 MW. Their estimated output will be 190 GWh. Four other European companies also took part in the auction. The acquisition agreement is subject to the relevant authorization for the construction and start up of the wind farms being obtained before September 30th, 2005. Total investment in the project is estimated to stand at Euro 111 million (US$ 145 million). The Trapani wind farm, with installed capacity of 32.3 MW, will start operating in March 2006, the Palermo farm (installed capacity of 34.85 MW), in June of the same year and the Vizzini farm (installed capacity of 23,8 MW) in August 2006.
