President Bush Calls Nuclear “Clean” and “Renewable”

[RenewableEnergyAccess.com] In an interview published in Thursday’s Wall Street Journal, President George W. Bush called for building more nuclear power plants as a solution to the environmental dangers he now admits are posed by coal burning power plants. He told the journal that the nation needs advanced nuclear-power plants, calling them a clean, “renewable” energy source for the future. With the new 109th Congress now in session, the Bush Administration is expected to push once again for passage of comprehensive energy legislation — which will likely included major subsidies for nuclear power plants. The package expected to come before Congress this year will be similar to Bush Administration-backed comprehensive legislation (H.R. 6) that failed gain enough votes to pass last year. With a strengthened Republican majority in Congress, however, the Bush Administration may succeed in 2005.
