Nebraska Ethanol Plant Begins Production

[] Midwest Renewable Energy (MRE) recently began production at its ethanol plant near Sutherland, Nebraska. MRE will process over 5.5 million bushels of corn into 15 million gallons of ethanol and 100,000 tons of wet distillers grains annually. The plant employs 33 people led by plant manager, Dennis Harstad. KL Process Design Group, the Rapid City, South Dakota engineering and project management firm, designed and managed the effort to retrofit the former Sutherland Associates plant that had been idle since 2001. Currently, 82 ethanol plants nationwide have the capacity to produce nearly 3.5 billion gallons annually. There are 16 ethanol plants under construction with a combined annual capacity of over 750 million gallons.
