GE Energy has received a contract to repower the Windpark Hartmannshain in Germany, which will triple the capacity of the site from 2.5 to 7.5 MW. This is the first repowering project in the state of Hessen. To facilitate the repowering, GE Energy will replace seven smaller wind turbines of various sizes that were built in 1992 with four of its most recent 1.5 MW models. An older 1.5-megawatt wind turbine, also part of the project site, did not require an upgrade and will continue to operate at the wind farm. The Windpark Hartmannshain is located in Grebenshain, Hessen, Germany, 40 kilometers from Fulda and 70 kilometers from Giessen, in the center of Germany. The repowered site’s 7.5 MW of capacity is expected to annually produce approximately 14,000 megawatt-hours of wind-generated electricity for the local area.
