[RenewableEnergyAccess.com]The Australian Gas Light Company (AGL) has invested AUD 4.5 million on a landfill gas powered generation site at Gosnells to generate electricity for Western Australia. The project is supported by the City of Gosnells’ Corporate Greenhouse Action plan, and forms part of the council’s greenhouse gas emissions strategy to harness and utilize biogas following the closure of the Kelvin Road Waste Disposal Site. AGL will carry out further augmentation works at the site next month to optimize the generation capacity of the facility. The energy plant at Gosnells was commissioned late last year and is expected to initially generate about 15.7 million kW of renewable electricity annually. This is enough electricity to power approximately 3000 homes, and offset some 16,000 tons of CO2 emissions that would have been produced by traditional electricity generation. The company also operates landfill extraction projects in New South Wales, Victoria.
