Solar Photovoltaic Thin Film in Malaysia

September 21, 2004 [SolarAccess.com] Malaysian news source Utusan Online reported that Mayang Kukuh in Kuala Lumpur plans to invest RM 350 million (US $ 92.1 million) over a period of five years to set up and run a solar cell manufacturing plant for Copper Indium Gallium Diselenide (CIGS) thin film photovoltaic technology. The company has signed an agreement with its U.S. counterpart company for distribution rights in Malaysia. Development efforts will help the company to deliver a prospect for commercial application that will produce thin-film photovoltaic modules costing less than RM 4.00 (US$ one dollar) per watt.
