September 1, 2004 [SolarAccess.com] Fuel cell systems developer Plug Power has made its GenCore 5T24, a 24 V, 5 kW backup fuel cell system, available to wireless service providers. The proton exchange membrane (PEM) system works with other available products in the GenCore platform, which were made available last year. Marketing a 24 V system will allow the company to meet a wider range of back up power requirements for wireless communications, according to Chief Marketing Officer Mark Sperry. The 5T24 is Network Equipment Building Systems (NEBS) Level 3 compliant, meets the GR-487-CORE Generic Requirements for Electronic Equipment Cabinets, has Underwriters Laboratory (UL) listing and has been certified as FCC Class B compliant. All GenCore products are based on Plug Power’s 5 kW power platform, and are fueled by hydrogen.
