Vienna, Austria – July 1, 2004 [SolarAccess.com] Hydroelectric power stations in Scotland are getting an efficiency update, and the Culligran Power Station is the next on the list. VA Tech Hydro of Vienna was awarded the latest contract from Scottish and Southern Energy for Euro 14 million (US $17 million) to work on the 31-year-old station. It is the latest project in a Euro 350 million (US $422.9 million) program to improve the hydro stations it controls. VA will work with Weir Engineering Services Alliance. The turnkey refurbishment of Culligran power station includes the installation of a new 2 MW Francis runner, new generator and new main inlet valve for Unit 1. The second Unit will be installed with a new 17.3 MW Deriaz runner, new main inlet valve, new hydraulic and digital governor, new brushless excitation system and new generator auxiliaries. The plant will be fully operational in September 2005.
